3 Mom Circus was thrilled when Steve, the creative dad behind Night Knights, contacted us and asked us to review his interactive bedtime book and dolls. It’s our first review, and it’s a product that I really like and can’t wait to use more as my daughters grow. If you’re looking for something highly imaginative and creative to make bedtime a little less dreadful and a lot more fun, this might be what you’re looking for!
Add a Little Imagination to Bedtime
My girls aren’t quite old enough to appreciate the imaginative fun behind this bedtime story set, but I can definitely see the potential. We’ve read the book together several times, and they love playing and cuddling with their Knights.
The product’s premise is similar to the wildly popular Elf on the Shelf, with your child’s Night Knight being the magical friend who protects their bedroom at night while they sleep. The magic that brings the story and dolls to life is based on the parents’ level of imagination and involvement. Some nights your Knight may get into lots of fun adventures around the bedroom, and other nights s/he may just sleep peacefully alongside your snoozing child. It’s up to you. This is what adds the elements of magic, creativity, and imaginative play into your bedtime routine. You control the narrative, and you can alter the stories and adventures based on your child’s bedtime needs. I can see the dolls being used as rewards and incentives for good choices at bedtime. I really am looking forward to using my Night Knights when my twin daughters get older.
The book is a high quality hardback book with soothing illustrations perfect for bedtime. I appreciated the soothing color palette that made the overall feel of the book relaxing. I also liked the fact that the book is meant to be interactive. You are given instructions on how to knight your doll, which is the beginning of giving the doll its “magical powers” as a protector of good sleep. (The girl is Lady Sleep-a-Lot, the boy is Sir Sleep-a-Lot) In the beginning of the book there is a place for you to record your Knight’s name and the date it came to live with you, which adds to the experience.
Anytime you can add an element of imaginative fun to a book or story, the experience comes to life for children. That’s exactly what Sir and Lady Sleep-a-Lot do for this book. The plush dolls are cute and have held up well to my twin toddler daughters. They are the perfect size to cuddle and sleep with comfortably. I also love the idea of using these dolls and book to introduce my girls to the exciting world of knights as another realm of play that’s beyond princesses.
In our home, sleep is precious, sleep is protected, and sleep is important. Good sleep habits and routines are taught and learned as children grow. The Night Knights can be a fun, interactive tool that helps parents teach this message. I love the idea and the slogan, “Every kid deserves a good Knight.”
